1895-1979. Russia choreographer and dancer
with the Ballets Russes. He was a creator of
comedy in ballet and also symphonic ballet
using concert music. He succeeded Mikhail
Fokine at the Ballets Russes and continued
with the company after Sergei Diaghilev's
death, later working in both the USA and
Europe. His works include the first
Cubist-inspired ballet, Parade 1917, La
Boutique Fantasque 1919, and The
Three-Cornered Hat 1919.
